Okay so I sold a car on Feb 22 2007 for about $200.00.(it was a POS) I had bill of sale signed and the release of Liability filled out. I sent the release in 3 days after I sold it along with a copy of the bill of sale. So of coarse when I recieved a tow bill from LA for that car I was suprised and thought it would be a easy fix. I sent the copies of what I had to the tow company and was promised that my name was cleared and taken care of. I didnt hear anything for awhile. So of coarse my OCD and I cleaned out my files and threw my proof away.(stupid!) So then I check my credit report and I have a collection for almost $2,000 for this car. I requested a copy of my release of liability from the DMV and sent it to the collection agency and the tow company and they wont except it because the addresses are blacked out by CA state law. And the Microfilm date is 6 months after the tow date. Also the DMV recorded my 2 as a 7 and instead of the records showing Feb It is recorded a July.I have tried almost everything. How do I fight this. It brought my excellent score down by almost 100 points? PLEASE HELP!

O.K. Inform the collection company that the charge is invalid because you have the proof. also don’t worry about the tow company.
Take them to court with the docs that you have from DMV to show you are not responsible for the charge after you released it and DMV accepted it.
The collection company has something like 30 days to either validate the claim or dismiss it. Don’t take there word for anything and don’t even bother with the tow company. But do not go to court without documents…….
